South Dakota expands Family Support Programs
The South
Dakota Council funded systems change activities that led
to the development and expansion of Family Support programs. These
programs provided person-centered, cost-efficient services so that
children and adults with developmental disabilities are able to remain
with their families or in their home communities. The
average yearly expenditure per person receiving family support services
in South Dakota is $4,945 while the average yearly cost of an
out-of-home community placement is approximately $61,911 for a
child and $41,157 for an adult.
